My mural was inspired by my neighbors, Kala and Roy, who built their boat “River Bandit” when they were 8! They catch giant barracuda and other monsters in the canal in our backyard. Unfortunately, a day and a half of rain had me alter my original design, (the boat would’ve been more detailed and Roy would’ve been there too!😭)
The mural measures about 57ft X 8ft and is located right in front of Lana Lane Studios, behind Honolulu Beerworks. (Lana Lane & Auahi Street, Kakaako, Hawaii.)
28 Summers Mural
This was a temporary mural created for the “28 Summers” solo exhibition at Kailua Gallery.
Ashtanga Yoga Richmond
Ashtanga Yoga Richmond (AYR) is a yoga studio located in Richmond, Virginia. Jill Vitamin and I were commissioned to paint a mural of Ganesh in the larger of two studios in their space.
Please read the full write up explaining the mural’s importance and symbolism here.
East Coast Provisions
I was commissioned by the Richmond Restaurant Group to paint murals and signage for East Coast Provisions (a.k.a. Coast), a seafood restaurant in Carytown, Richmond, Virginia. I was asked to paint white text on the interior brick walls of the restaurant. The owners wanted a “ghost sign” appearance, so the letters are oversized, abruptly cropped, whitewashed and distressed to look like they had been painted on the walls long before the restaurant was opened. All together they read the name of the restaurant (East Coast Provisions), as well as the word Oyster along the downstairs bar wall.
I was commissioned by Jen, at Barre Kailua, to paint a mural of a palm frond in her studio in Kailua, Hawaii. Barre classes incorporate exercises from pilates, yoga, ballet and strength training. Jen envisioned a palm frond painted over the barre as a relaxing motif, as well as an image to echo the curvature of a ballerina's spine in certain positions. I stylized the spine of the leaf to look slightly more anatomical, while incorporating a triangle pattern to keep the mural cohesive with the triangles in Barre Kailua's branding.
In addition to the mural, I painted the Barre Kailua logo (which Jen designed herself) near both doors in the studio.
